Introduction

Collectors have been fascinated by glass for centuries. In the 1960's,
artists in the USA and Europe began to experiment with glass in
individual studios. Their backgrounds in such varied fields as ceramics,
painting and weaving gave the early pioneers in this field the creative
and aesthetic sense that provided a base to which they applied their
increasing technical abilities.
Contemporary artists working in the medium glass are now included in
such prestigious institutions as the Metropolitan Museum and the
Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Smithonian Institute in
Washington, the LA County Museum in Los Angeles and many major
museums in Europe and Asia. In 1996, the Metropolitan had a major
exhibition of its collection of Contemporary Studio Glass.
The Sanske Galerie is proud to represent the most important artists working
in the most demanding of all art mediums today - the medium of glass.
